Australian Retailers Behind in Omni-Channel, Finds New OrderDynamics Study

OrderDynamics’ Omni-1000 report reveals Australian retailers lack omni-channel maturity, especially click and collect

TORONTO – Nov. 2, 2017 – OrderDynamics, the creator of the world’s most advanced out of the box, Distributed Order Management (DOM) System, today announced the release of its Omni-1000 Australia research study, which examines the actual omni-channel capabilities of 200 Australian retailers.

The OrderDynamics’ Omni-1000 Australia found that Australian retailers’ omni-channel capabilities do not meet customer expectations. Only 25.5 percent of Australian retailers offer buy online, pickup in-store (BOPIS), or click and collect capabilities. However, 66.3 percent of retailers that offer click and collect in Australia advertise the service on their homepage. This is higher than average, and one of the areas in which Australia excels compared to other regions.

The research also revealed that among Australian retailers:

  • 89.0 percent have standard e-commerce capabilities, such as the ability for shoppers to create a virtual shopping basket and purchase goods online;
  • 72.5 percent provide basic inventory visibility to online consumers, but only 7.0 percent offer a detailed level of inventory visibility;
  • 64.1 percent allow shoppers to buy online, return in-store (BORIS);
  • 74.2 percent offer free shipping.

“While we did find that Australian retailers are behind in a number of omni-channel areas, the study reveals the opportunity for retailers to differentiate themselves by providing services that their competitors do not offer,” said Nick McLean, CEO, OrderDynamics. “In areas such as Australia with low population density, services like click and collect should be readily available to customers in order to increase convenience and satisfaction.”

The OrderDynamics Omni-1000 used a ‘random-walk’ methodology to investigate and determine the e-commerce and click and collect capabilities, policies and services of more than 200 retailers in Australia and more than 1,000 retailers worldwide.
