NRF 2019: The Big Day

International day is all well and good. It is fun, and amazing to meet so many people from around the world. But truly, the big day is the first Monday of the show. And, yesterday’s opener was no exception. You have all the international guests, plus all the US retailer coming out to see all the exhibits, vendors, talks, and attending the receptions. And, yesterday’s opener was no exception to the rule of volumes!

Tips and Traffic

NRF 2019 - Day 2 - TrafficThis year’s traffic and flow were tremendous. So much so, that as a vendor you could barely catch a breath (which is a good thing). With so many retailers and guests, remember to book any key meetings ahead of time. That way your booth host will have reserved time to speak specifically with you. But, don’t let that dissuade you.

In terms of tips, make sure you have your lip balm (Chapstick), and remember to drink plenty of water! The size of the show is just enormous, so expect to walk… and bump into many friends and colleagues from the industry.

 

Tecsys Rebranding

Tecsys new logo - Tecsys rebrandingBig news yesterday, was our very own rebranding. Tecsys now has a whole new look and feel. And, it looks good! The rebranding comes on the heels of the Tecsys acquisition of OrderDynamics in November 2018. This move brings together an outstanding, best-in-class portfolio of supply chain technologies. The new look and feel evoke a sense of warmth and high standards of quality that the company represents.

Peter Brereton, president and CEO of Tecsys, points out “Our strength has been working alongside our clients to co-create the clarity needed for supply chain greatness. It is our belief that more organizations should have access to the supply chain strategies and tools to allow them to scale and reach their aspirations.” Truly, the rebranding will emphasize the key point that Tecsys will continue its steady course to support retailers in supply chain technologies, as a responsible, ethical and visionary company.

 

 

Receptions – Many Thanks

Ed Kennedy and Charles Dimov on NRF2019First of all thanks to our great partner Episerver for co-hosting a night at the Hunt & Fish Club NYC. The venue is stunning. Food was absolutely fantastic. And, most of all, an intimate night of dining with our retail guests made the night memorable.

Astound’s Classic Cars

If you liked cars, the ‘Commerce & Cocktails’ evening will have you talking for months. It was great to have an opportunity to speak with the Astound Commerce team, in a more relaxed setting. Then, of course, there were the cocktails and canapes. However, if you didn’t take a ride in a classic or ultra-luxury car (think Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s), then you missed it! What a venue. What an event. Astound team, we are definitely looking forward to next year’s ‘Commerce & Cocktails’ event. I’m getting there early. It really epitomized the term ‘Joy Ride’.

 

 

 

Cap Gemini & Redhat

If fast cars just were not your thing, Cap Gemini and Redhat invited guests to the Toro. But, you did not just go to a restaurant here. Part of the adventure here was being escorted to the back, past the kitchen, and into a thin winding, candle-lit corridor.

Not quite knowing what to think of this long-ish journey, the corridor finally opens up to a cavern. With a wall of candles, and another of grasses and vines growing, it resembled a tropical cave oasis. Loved the venue, and delightful guests. Thank you for the invitation, Cap Gemini & Redhat.

 

BigCommerce, Avalara & LiveArea Party It Up!

BicCommerce and Avalara event at Black Barn Restaurant in NYC during NRF 2019BigCommerce & Avalara know how to throw a party to end the big day! Hosted at the BlackBarn, this was just the coolest party. The venue on the upper level overlooked the charming restaurant.

Frankly, the best part was having an opportunity to take in a drink, and chat with colleagues from around the industry. Of course, we always love our hosts from Avalara – with their impeccable taste in colourful clothing (we share a love for Orange 😉). BigCommerce, Avalara & LiveArea … thanks for inviting us. You guys ROCK! What a way to end the big day!

 

The Big Day at NRF 2019

NRF 2019 Day 2Truly, the Big Day at the Big Show… is the opening Monday. What I can share with everyone, is that Retail has got Buzz. There was just no end to the excitement on the floor. It was non-stop action. Then, of course, there were so many venues to take in during the evening. It is easy to dismiss these as merely parties, but they are places to connect with colleagues from around the industry, share thoughts, and forge connections. As we discussed in yesterday’s post… it is all about the Shopper’s Experience… and that includes the networking experience among retailers too!
